The Official Gottman Institute Workshop

The Art & Science of Love

A research-based weekend workshop for couples

Based on over 40 years of research with more than 3,000 couples, The Art & Science of Love weekend workshop gives you practical tools to deepen your connection, improve communication, and navigate conflict constructively.

This is a comprehensive educational experience for couples. Two full days of learning, practicing, and growing together. You'll leave with a shared language, proven strategies, and renewed hope for your relationship.

What You'll Learn

The complete Gottman Method toolkit for lasting relationships

Build Love Maps

Deepen your knowledge of your partner's inner world: their dreams, fears, joys, and stresses. Strong relationships start with truly knowing each other.

Nurture Fondness & Admiration

Rekindle appreciation and respect. Learn to express affection in ways that resonate and protect your relationship from negativity.

Turn Towards, Not Away

Recognize and respond to your partner's bids for connection. Small moments of turning towards build the emotional bank account that sustains you through hard times.

Manage Conflict Constructively

Not all problems are solvable, and that's okay. Learn to dialogue about perpetual issues without gridlock, and resolve solvable problems without damaging your bond.

Make Life Dreams Come True

Support each other's aspirations. Create shared meaning and purpose that goes beyond day-to-day routines.

Create Shared Rituals

Establish rituals of connection (daily, weekly, yearly) that keep your relationship vibrant and prioritized.

"Happily married couples aren't smarter, richer, or more psychologically astute than others. They have simply hit upon a dynamic that keeps their negative thoughts and feelings from overwhelming the positive ones."

Workshop Questions

What you need to know before you attend.

What exactly happens during the workshop?
The workshop alternates between brief educational presentations by Saul and private exercises you complete with your partner. You'll learn a concept, then immediately practice it together. Topics include building friendship, managing conflict, and creating shared meaning. All exercises are done privately—you won't share anything with other couples.
What materials do we receive?
Each couple receives the official Gottman Workshop materials: a comprehensive couples workbook, card decks for ongoing connection exercises, and guided worksheets for all workshop activities. These materials are yours to keep and use at home after the workshop.
Do we need to prepare anything beforehand?
No preparation is required. Just come with an open mind and willingness to engage with the exercises. You may want to discuss with your partner why you're attending and what you hope to gain, but there's no homework or reading needed.
What if we're already in couples therapy?
The workshop complements ongoing therapy beautifully. Many couples attend while in therapy and find the intensive skill-building accelerates their progress. You'll learn frameworks that you can discuss with your therapist and integrate into your ongoing work.
Is this workshop right for us if we're not in crisis?
Absolutely. The workshop is valuable for couples at all stages—from newlyweds wanting a strong foundation, to long-term partners wanting to deepen their connection, to couples navigating challenges. Proactive couples often gain the most because they can implement tools before problems become entrenched.
What's the schedule?
Saturday runs 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday runs 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There are regular breaks throughout each day, including a break for lunch.

Experience real lasting change in just one weekend.
